No Strike: Union and WRTA Agree to Cooling Off Period

WORCESTER _ According to a letter from city and state officials dated Nov. 12, 2010, to Local 22 Business Agent Christopher Bruce, City Manager Michael O’Brien has requested Professional Transit Management Services, Inc. (PTM) provide a “’15-day cooling off period,’ in the interest of the transit-dependent patrons of the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA).”

The letter goes on to state that PTM will not impose its best and final offer, set for implementation on Nov. 13, 2010, provided the Union does not strike. PTM has agreed to the 15-day “cooling off period” and for additional Federal Mediation.

Additionally, the letter asks that both groups return to the bargaining table with the Federal Mediator and that the Union contract requests reflect the fiscal crisis that the WRTA currently faces.

The Union has agreed to this cooling off period.
