WORCESTER, MA. Sunday, October 15th, 2006 — The Worcester Regional Transit Authority has announced that it has upgraded fare boxes on all its buses and will begin using a new-style of tickets and passes November 1, 2006.
“We have taken steps of upgrading the fare box system to speed the boarding process. I believe our customers will be pleased with the added convenience of the new system. Our operators have been extensively trained and after a slight learning curve for the customers I am sure the boarding process will improve,” said Mr. Richard Glavin, Interim Administrator of the WRTA.
Newly designed tickets and passes will be available at all established WRTA sales locations. The cost of the fare has not increased. The tickets and passes will have a magnetic strip on the back and will be inserted into the fare box. The ride will be deducted from the ticket or pass and will be returned to the rider to keep for additional rides.
All of the tickets and passes that are currently available to riders will be available in the new style. Exact change will also still be accepted.
The current 30 day pass will become a 31 day rolling pass and will activate once the pass is used. The pass no longer runs month-to-month, but for 31 consecutive days from the first day of use. View Ticket Brochure
