WORCESTER, MA. Monday, March 26th, 2007 — A new chapter is about to begin for the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) as contract negotiations for Stephen O’Neil, the WRTA’s recently named new administrator, have concluded.
The Contract Negotiation team of Shrewsbury Town Manager Daniel Morgado, Holden Director of Growth Management Dennis Lipka and Leicester Selectman Douglas Belanger, along with O’Neil have finalized negotiations. Attorneys for the WRTA are currently reviewing the contract and a formalized signing will be held next Thursday, March 29, 2007 at the WRTA office.
O’Neil was chosen from an original pool of 26 applicants, which were narrowed down to three candidates. The WRTA Advisory Board met and interviewed each candidate in an open meeting on March 1.
In an unconventional move, Chairman of the Advisory Board, Worcester City Manager Michael O’Brien, motioned the board for a non-weighted vote. Massachusetts State Stature allows each member town a certain weighted vote. The city of Worcester carries the most weight. After deliberation, the board unanimously chose O’Neil.
O’Neil currently works for the city of Worcester and is expected to take the WRTA reins by April 2.
The Worcester Regional Transit Authority is located at 287 Grove Street Worcester with a customer service office located in Mechanics Hall at 317 Main Street Worcester, MA. To reach the WRTA call 508-791-WRTA (9782). |
