Paratransit Automated Fare Collection System
The WRTA is pleased to announce a new Paratransit fare collection system will be implemented starting January 1, 2019. The current fare collection system will transition from a cash and ticket system to a prepaid automated system. All ADA paratransit riders, Auburn, Boylston, Leicester, Northborough, Oxford, Westborough and West Boylston will be using the new system.
What if I live in Worcester?
All Worcester paratransit riders will be required to use the new system.
Why is this changing?
WRTA is responding to customer requests to implement this system. Passengers find it easiest when they don’t have to worry about finding exact change and they know they can travel without the added stress. This will eliminate overpayment for trips since drivers are unable to make change or purchase tickets to pay for the trip.
How much does it cost to ride?
ADA complementary trips start at $2.75 in town**
Non ADA trips start at $1.50 in town**
**fares increase $.25 for each town away (maximum of $3.50)
Can my Personal Care Attendant (PCA) ride with me?
A PCA, rides for free. Traveling companions that accompany you on your trip will pay the same fare. Service animals are welcome on all WRTA vehicles.
When will I see the funds withdrawn from my account?
Your fare will be deducted from your account the night of your trip. You will not be charged for canceled trips, missed trips, or “no-showed” trips. For more information on cancelled, missed trips or no shows visit our website site at: www.wrtaparatransit.com
I still have tickets. Can I still use them or get my money back?
You can transfer the value of your tickets to your account. This can be done by mailing the tickets to WRTA with your ID# or by turning them in to the WRTA Customer Service window at the WRTA Hub.
How can I pay my fare?
There are several ways to put funds in your account.

- Mail a check or money order payable to Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA), 60 Foster St., Worcester, MA 01608, to add credit to your account.
- Cash payments at the WRTA HUB Customer Service Window *Minimum is $10. Maximum is $500.
How do I know how much money is in my account?
Account balance information will be accessible via the on-line portal. You may also call the PBSTM office and ask a reservationist to check your balance. Balance information will be provided during trip reservation.
Can I link my paratransit account to my credit or debit card?
Yes. Auto-replenish is also available and is the recommended way to add funds to your account.
I don’t have a credit or debit card. What do I do now?
Prepaid credit cards, available at many grocery or convenience stores, can also be used. Alternatively, you can put funds in your account by presenting cash at the WRTA HUB Customer Service window.
I don’t have a checking account. What do I do now?
Money orders made out to Worcester Regional Transit Authority will be accepted.
