WORCESTER _ The Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) has reached another technological milestone with the launch of its new, user-friendly mobile ready website. Due to the increasing demand for instant real-time access to bus schedules and information on mobile devices, the WRTA has designed a mobile ready website to meet the needs of its riders.

“This is an exciting moment in the WRTA’s history,” said WRTA Administrator Stephen O’Neil. “The new mobile ready website is integrated with the intuitive BusTracker, Bustime Real-Time Information System (RTIS), so that our riders can know exactly where their bus is, in real-time.”

BusTracker, which runs off of the Clever Devices Bustime RTIS, uses schedule data and real-time positioning of the buses via GPS (Global Positioning Satellite).

This system, which is available on both the mobile ready website and WRTA website, allows riders to see exactly where a bus is in real-time, so they can find out exactly when the bus will arrive at their stop.

The mobile site loads quickly, is compatible with all mobile devices including smart phones and IPads, pulls the same information from the main website, and has the WRTA branded look and feel.

“BusTracker gives riders the information they need right at their fingertips,” O’Neil said.  “The mobile ready website was designed completely with our riders in mind. It’s been customized for ease of use, is technology friendly, and offers the same options as our website. Transitioning from one platform to the other is virtually seamless.”

Other major transit authorities such as the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority, Chicago Transit Authority, and the New York City’s Metropolitan Transit Authority also have found the need for a mobile ready website.

“It’s very important that we stay in touch with our riders and remain on the cutting edge of technology in order to give them the service that they need and expect,” O’Neil said.
