60 Foster St., once 14 Cherry St., Worcester

The new WRTA headquarters next to Union Station has an address of 60 Foster St., but its predecessor on the site more than 50 years ago had an address of 14 Cherry St. The former site of Pratt & Inman might just as well have (and part of its complex did have) an address on Washington Square, all a testament to both the complicated intersection we all know as Washington Square (not a square at all) as well as the changing forces of transportation and urban renewal.
Cherry Street disappeared in the urban renewal of the 1960s in the downtown area, all swirling around the more permanent fixture of the railroad tracks that ran through the downtown area and served the many factories that once clustered there.
